PORT SHUT OFF CALLS TO HELPLINE
Over 550 ports and modem access were shut off in the last couple
of weeks due to new viruses and worms that were disrupting service
to other Internet users.
PORT SHUT OFF PREVENTION
To avoid causing problems for yourself and others, run Windows Update
on YOUR windows system. Also, EVERYONE should update their virus
software daily.
VIDEO TAPES TO DVD, A VNS SERVICE
Video Network Services (VNS) now has the capability to transfer
video tapes to DVD. This is a fee based service based on the length

MARCH DEADLINE FOR ITV 2004-2005 COURSES
ITV program coordinators must submit credit course requests for
the 2004-2005 academic year by the end of March. The highest priority
for the U's ITV network is given to graduate and undergraduate credit
instruction; and of those, ongoing programs are given first scheduling

ITV REQUESTS FOR FALL AND SUMMER 2004 AND SPRING
2005
VNS is in the process now of scheduling ITV courses for the 2004
summer session. Requesters for Fall 2004 courses will get e-mail
by the end of April indicating that the request has been received
and an update on the status of the request. Spring 2005 course requests
will be scheduled in July.
WEBCT COURSE SITE SPACE INCREASED
Server space for each WebCT course site has been increased to 100
megabytes. Sites that deliver large audio or video files are still
encouraged to consider an alternate delivery method, such as CD-ROM
and to optimize files for the Internet since small media files benefit
students who connect to WebCT course sites via a modem. See http://webct.umn.edu/

STUDENT COMPUTER FACILITIES
During spring break (March 13 - 21 Student Labs that do not close

for summer new student orientation.
REMINDER: DISPOSING OF DEPARTMENTAL COMPUTER
EQUIPMENT
UCS picks up departmental computer products (CPU, monitor, keyboard,
other technology-related items) located on the Twin Cities campus
free of charge and recycles or disposes of it according to U recycling
