NEW SINGLE-LINE PHONES.
NTS is phasing in a new single-line telephone: the STE-SDB. The set is black and has a built-in speaker phone, voice mail light, and
programmable buttons. The new phones are line-powered and do not need batteries or AC connections. NTS is changing from the STE-SD to the new STE-SDB because the University contract with SciTech expired recently. Both phones will be used for orders or repair during this transition time as NTS inventory fluctuates. User guides will be available soon. View a picture of the new phone:

PHONE FEATURES ADDED!
Anonymous Call Rejection, Automatic Recall, and Caller ID Block are now available to all University of Minnesota telephones on the Twin Cities campus.

ANONYMOUS CALL REJECTION: callers with suppressed information will hear a message that says "the number you dialed does not accept blocked calls. Please unblock your number and dial again." Anonymous call rejection only works for calls coming in from off-campus numbers. Callers with unpublished or unlisted phone numbers will be blocked by this feature. Dial [*] [7] [7] to activate anonymous call rejection; dial [*] [8] [7] to turn off anonymous call rejection.

AUTOMATIC RECALL: stores the number of the last incoming call and will automatically dial that number for you. Dial [*] [6] [9] and follow the voice prompts.

CALLER-ID BLOCK: on a per-call basis, this feature temporarily blocks your Caller ID information from being sent when dialing off-campus numbers. It will NOT block your Caller ID if you dial a 5-digit extension on campus. Dial [*] [6] [7] to activate.

HOW OLD IS YOUR INTERNET PASSWORD?
Has your password passed the one-year mark? New Internet password
rules are coming that will require a password change at least once per
year. To see when your Internet password was last changed and to set a new password, log in to http://www.umn.edu/validate and click on
"Change your Internet password."

NEW PROCEDURE FOR INTERNET PASSWORD RE-SETS!
As of October 16, 2006, the temporary password given to users by
helpline consultants or local technical support will not authenticate
the user to Web-based applications. Instead, the user will be informed
that the password has expired and immediately be directed to change
the password. Applications that use RADIUS (wireless, modem pool, VPN) will authenticate using the temporary password so long as it is valid.
