SERVICE CHARGES CHANGING.
As of July 1, 2007, the
Office of Information Technology (OIT) will use an alternate funding
model for voice services. Service charges are moving from an ISO
charge-back model to an allocation-based "common good" model. "Common
good services"include analog lines, integrated lines, voicemail,
circuit charges, and auto attendants.
NTS continues to charge for long distance calls and any one-time
charges from moves, adds, and changes. One-time charges include
labor, order charges, materials, and telephones. Non-University-funded
customers and non-University-CUFS-account customers continue to
be billed for recurring charges. More details at www.umn.edu/nts/rates.
BOREAS PROJECT.
On April 16, four collaborating Universities—the
University of Minnesota, Iowa State University, the University
of Iowa, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison—announced
creation of a new multi-state fiber optic network: BOREAS-Net (Broadband
Optical Research, Education and Scientific Network). The BOREAS-Net
project goal is to offer high bandwidth applications for worldwide
researcher collaboration. For more information about the BOREAS
Net, visit www.boreas.net.
WIRELESS 2008.
NTS Wireless 2008 Project will replace current
wireless network access on the Twin Cities campus with state-of-the
art technology, using a phase-in process similar to the one used
in Gopher GigaNet (GGN). The second goal is to expand this coverage
to create seamless access across campus. After town hall meetings
with NTS customers, our team is reviewing the Requests for Proposal
(RFPs). |
